Several years ago sunflowers were primarily grown for sunflower Seed oil. Now, several types of sunflowers are consumed by caged birds, wild birds, and humans. The "oil type" of sunflower seed is used mostly for pressing, and also for wild birds. Black stripes and grey stripes are used in many caged bird formulas.
