Horses need to drink at least 10 gallons of water per day. During a race or after prolonged strenuous activity, they can sweat up to seven gallons. Because horses lose more electrolytes than water, this inhibits their thirst mechanism. As a result, recovery of hydration is delayed, placing increased stress on the horse's normal physiology. Offering your horse electrolyte-enriched water after strenuous activity or exercise should restore the normal thirst response. State Line Tack State Line Tack Electrolyte is an apple flavored powdered formula that mixes readily in water to provide minerals that could be lost during exercise or other dehydrating activities. Recommended for active adult horses, working horses and competition horses. Enclosed scoop holds one ounce. Electrolyte may be administered in horse's feed or drinking water at the rate of two ounces per ten gallons of fresh water or two ounces in the horse's daily feed ration in place of regular salt.
