A green bird, like a parrot, macaw or a Green Violet, makes a nice bird for a pet. Whether the bird is entirely green of just has green-tipped feathers, a green bird is vibrant, bright and colorful. These birds are popular pets. Backyards birds also have green hues, like the hummingbird.
The Colorful Parrot
Parrots and macaws are wonderfully colorful birds. Though they have a mostly green base, they also have red, yellow and blue feathers on their wings. Parrots live in South America, thriving on the warm weather, where they eat seeds, fruits and nuts. They like to live and travel in pairs and can be quite noisy at times. Parrots are popular as pets because they are intelligent, talkative, and friendly. The green bird featured in the movie Paulie is also a parrot. He has an amazing memory, good flight skills, is well socialized and experiences many emotions, from sadness to joy. He is the kind of bird who makes us laugh and makes us cry.
The Green-Winged King Parrot
The Green-Winged Parrot, like its name suggests, is a green bird that can be found in Australia. They thrive in humid temperatures and prefer to live in a heavily forested region. They tend to live and stay together in small groups, sometimes with other species of birds. When being raised in captivity, they require a lot of extra space and plenty of toys to keep them occupied. They tend to act out behaviorally when they are bored or lonely. To thrive, they need a lot of attention and companionship, and thus they do well in aviaries. They are brilliantly colored with a red head and underbelly that accentuates their green wings.
Humming Birds
Even some backyard birds carry a beautiful green sheen. Many species of the humming birds are at least partly green. The Buff-Bellied Humming Bird has a red bill and a green neck and back that shimmer. The Allen's Humming Bird male is a green bird with a gray belly and a rose crown. The females have green under parts.
Green Violets
Another type of green bird is the Green Violet. These birds have a pinkish, red face with a deep green tone to their bodies. The only exception is the tip of their feathers that often appear to have a hue of light blue to them. This green bird makes a nice pet.
