    Penguins are of size 46 to 61 cm. Their weight is about 3 to 6.5 kg. The largest penguin known was similar to the size of a man.
  3. Life Span:

    The lifespan of penguins is probably 15 to 20 years.
  4. Varieties:

    There are three main varieties in penguins which are Macaroni penguin, Emperor penguin and Chinstrap penguin. Out of them Emperor penguin is the largest and heaviest penguin.
  5. Origins:

    Penguins are very old birds. Their origin must be near about 60 million years ago.
  6. Physical Traits:

    Penguins bones are very heavy and solid. There legs are placed very far from their bodies. The feathers of penguins are dense. These feathers protect them from cold water. Their backs are black which absorbs heat and keep them warm.
  7. Temperament:

    Penguins are very social birds. They like to be in a group. They feed and swim together. They are playful and active birds. They have a calm disposition. But they defend their nests by using their beaks and wings.

    Penguins cannot fly but they can be trained to make extraordinary jumps and leaps. They love to slide on their bellies.

    Penguins do not like being handled by humans. Though among themselves, they are very much playful. They are very sociable creatures. Thousands of penguins accumulate together when they are ready to migrate; they have tremendous herd mentality.
