   Legend has it that Lord Tweedmouth desired to develop his Yellow Retrievers and used the Tweed Water Spaniel for interbreeding. The consequent four yellow puppies were then cross bred with Irish Setters, Bloodhounds and Tweed Waters to produce the Golden Retriever. They were used as hunters, retrievers and tracking.
