Read About Great Dane Puppies

ImageGreat Dane puppies date back to 35 BC when their pictures were stamped on money during Greek times. The Great Danes of the past resemble the Great Danes that we see today. This dog breed has been called the Apollo of all dogs due to their strong appearance. They were common in Italy and parts of Spain with Asiatic people who took these powerful dogs with them. In Germany, these dogs were known for having the ability to overpower larger animals such as bears. The dog that we see today originally came when people began breeding Great Danes with Irish Greyhounds to get the slim beautiful looking dog that we see today.

Great Dane puppies have been described as being gentle giants. It might be hard to believe, but these dogs are gentle, affectionate, loving and they are very patient with children. Once you get past the intimidating appearance, these are very kind and caring dogs. The dogs need to be around people that show them affection. They rarely bark and only become agitated or angered when the circumstances call for it. If these dogs are mistreated then they will grow to become angry dogs that are not suitable to have around children.

Research has shown that Great Danes are very dependable dogs. They make great companions as well as great watch dogs. While these dogs are inherently gentle and affectionate in nature, they should be put in obedience training. This training should take place when they are young because it may be harder to change their habits as adults. It may take some time and patience to train these dogs, as some are very hard to train.

Great Dane puppies grow to be quite large in size. A male can grow to be anywhere from 120-200 pounds. Females, though, are a lot smaller, reaching a maximum weight of about 130 pounds. Both male and female dogs grow to be quite tall in stature. These animals are not without their health problems. You do have to take these dogs jogging until they are about a year old. As Great Dane puppies get older they can become susceptible to hip dysplasia, bloating, tumors and heart disease. This is why you have to make sure you give them plenty of exercise and feed them the proper dog food.

Due to the fact that these animals have short hair, they are fairly easy to groom. To avoid having to bathe the dog often, you should make every effort to groom the dog on a regular basis using a firm brush. Bathing is a huge job as this dog is a giant. Great Dane puppies do require a great deal of exercise and they are not good dogs for apartments, mainly because of their size.
