Jack Russell Dogs are one of the latest breeds recognized by the AKC Kennel Club. The standard having been set within the last few years, you can now see this breed in all the dog shows. They are appearing in homes around the world. They are small, compact, strong, happy, and full of energy. Being a member of the Terrier family you can expect to see all those Terrier qualities you might expect. They will be stubborn, determined, independent, strong willed and fiercely loyal. Jack Russell dogs are small dogs, usually ranging from twelve to fifteen inches and weighing from ten to seventeen pounds. Their main color is white, but they have brown and black patches or splotches of color in any all areas of their body and face. Jack Russell dogs are tough, resilient, and tenacious; and there may be many battles of will to see just who gives in first.
They need daily exercise to run off some of that energy, especially if they are the only pet in the household. Without daily walks, or runs they can be become 
destructive, and should never be left unattended in a yard, even with a fence, as they have very active minds, and without anything to entertain them they become restless, bored, and will bark for no apparent reason. They also can jump much higher than many dogs and a person would need to consider the size of the fencing they have, as it needs to be at least six feet high, or these little fellows can jump out, take off for an adventure, and may never be seen again. Terriers in general like to chase smaller animals, and may be aggressive with other dogs. With proper training and attention they can be good with your cats and other animal companions. Jack Russell dogs are no exception to this rule. They can be fierce competitors, and great watchdogs.
Because of their size Jack Russell dogs are becoming ever more popular, with so many people choosing to live in apartments or condos a dog of this size can fit easily in this lifestyle as long as people are aware of their exercise requirements. Make sure, as when buying any pet, you do your research and find out as much as you can to make sure this is the dog for you and your lifestyle; you need to be devoted to their care, make sure they get their needs meet, and please be sure to buy from a reputable pet breeder. Jack Russell dogs, as all purebred dogs, are more expensive than mixed breeds, and because of that there are puppy mills around the country where the temperament and quality of the dogs is not the main consideration of the breeder. Jack Russell dogs can make wonderful companions, and lifelong friends, if you choose your breeder carefully.
