But where did the Rottweiler come from? Most historians agree that they came from the Roman Empire. They were used to transport wood, metal, and other building materials to building sites and towns. When the Romans were trying to conquer Europe, the dogs were used to keep the men moving. They didn't require much food and had lots of stamina. Due to Rottweilers' very protective nature, they were trusted to carry information and small items to neighboring towns. People would attach payments in the form of gold pieces around the dog's neck. No one dared to steal anything from the Rottweiler. If they did, the dog would attack them. Many people died trying to steal the gold around their necks. The dogs held this job until the late 1800s when it became illegal to use dogs to perform labor. Around this time, the train was the primary means of transportation. The dog was left out of a job.
In the early 1900s, the dog was called upon once again. 
This time, he was trained to work with the police as a guard. The dog was perfect for the job. Strong, intelligent, and not afraid of people, the Rottweiler soon became the most feared dog on the planet. They are still used as guard dogs today. Most of them are trained to disable criminals instead of killing them.
Today, the Rottweiler can still be found in junkyards and certain police forces. They are as smart and as obedient as ever. These dogs are not meant to be around children. If kept as a pet, it is recommended to keep the dogs in a cage or yard where they can run and play without hurting anyone. Rottweilers are faithful and protective guard dogs.
