Pomeranian grooming tips will help keep your little pet clean and beautiful! Here's everything you need to know about it.
Pomeranian Grooming Tips
-
The Facts:
Pomeranians have a long, double coat that is comprised of a harsh, textured outer coat and soft, dense undercoat. Because of this, they need to be brushed daily to prevent mats and tangling. Pomeranians also get a lot of "junk" in their eyes and ears; they need to be cleaned daily to keep infection away. Double coated breeds like the Pomeranian should not require more then 3 or 4 baths a year, but dry bathing is recommended if needed. -
Supplies:
The supplies that you will need to groom your Pomeranian are a slicker brush, metal combs, scissors, mat comb and nail clippers or a grinder, dog shampoo and flea dip, unless you have your vet do that. And, of course, those special treats that your dog will know are rewards for letting you groom him!
-
What to Do:
Brush him at least weekly, but daily with the slicker is nice and he will begin to enjoy this time with you. Regular brushing is necessary in order to remove the wooly hair from the dense undercoat. His nails will need to be clipped or ground weekly or when you hear them as he walks. Be careful not to cut too close. Use the rake and comb at least weekly to get the undercoat. Dip him with flea dip as your vet advises. -
Special Considerations:
Pomeranians have special grooming tips to consider when you are either planning to buy a Pomeranian or take over the grooming of your pet. They are considered long haired, double coated dogs. With this come some good and some bad. The long haired, double coated pets shed a lot. The only thing you can do is to brush him daily, but that will give you time with your pet that you can both enjoy. Do not shave your Pomeranian in the summer, because contrary to what most people think, the coat keeps them cool and shaving him will cause him to me more uncomfortable in the hot months. -
Other Tips:
Make the grooming of your Pomeranian a fun time, tell him how pretty he is looking and give him treat after. This will make yours and his experience more enjoyable. -
Expense:
The expense of grooming your Pomeranian by yourself, compared to a professional groomer is greatly reduced and you can enjoy the time and bonding with your pet if you do it yourself. Make sure to purchase quality tools that will last a long time and use these Pomeranian grooming tips to have a positive experience for you and your pet.
