Blue
Mastiff puppies are regularly advertised in the
pets for sale section of the Classifieds in the
newspaper. In addition, there are many breeders who advertise the dogs they have
for sale through websites on the Internet. If you find the dog you
want through an online site, you do need to check to see if the breeder is a
reputable one. You might want to email a list of questions about the puppy the
breeder provides. Wait for an answer before you commit to buying the puppy.
Blue mastiff puppies thrive in home environments, and therefore you need to make sure the breeder keeps the puppies in his/her home. This means that the puppy reacts well to people, and will not shy away from strangers. When you visit the breeder, ask to see where all the dogs are kept to check if it is clean and maintained. This will give you an idea of whether you can expect to purchase a healthy dog and one that is free of fleas. The breeder should also be limited in the dog breeds that it has. This will help to reassure you that you are buying a purebred pup.
When you take your Blue Mastiff puppies’
home, you do have to do obedience
training to get them housetrained. The main thing you have
to concentrate on first is
potty training, and you should expect to find many accidents that you
have to clean up. Therefore, you also need to invest in
urine cleaners to take away the smell and the stain. You should never
give the puppy free rein in the home. If you confine it to one small area where
you keep the
crate, or whatever you have for the puppy to sleep in, you will
lessen the amount of clean up work you have to do. Cover the floor outside the
crate with newspapers or special pads, so the puppy will know that this is where
you want it to go. You can gradually increase the room you give the puppy, and
praise it when it always goes back to the pad to potty.
Once you have the potty training mastered your Blue Mastiff puppies, then you can start other types of training, such as tricks. You will need to use positive reinforcement, and plenty of treats to teach the puppy to sit. Hold a treat just above the puppy's nose and repeat the word "Sit". You may have to push down on the hindquarters to get the puppy into a sitting position. When it does sit, even if you make it do so, then give the treat as a reward, along with lots of praise. Repeat the process a few times, but don't spend too long at it because you don't want to give the puppy too many treats at once. Also, if you spend too long at one time, the puppy will get bored. Training Blue Mastiff puppies is not as hard as you think, and it is fun for both you and the puppy.
