If you have dogs at home, but want to bring home a Britney Spaniel, there are a few things you should know. Introducing a new dog breed into your home is not an easy task, especially if your home already has two or three dogs. However, don't be discouraged. There are ways you can safely introduce your new dog until he becomes, not a new dog, but just one of the gang.
You have to remember that dogs are pack animals. Therefore when a Britney Spaniel is introduced, the order of the pack is upset and has to be established all over again. Dogs are territorial. They have an order, which includes a pack leader, you. You will find that the worse quarrels are among the females (leave it to the women to make the biggest fuss), but jokes aside, you have to be careful that the dogs don't gang up on the new dog. Some of the lower rank dogs will run from this instead of participating.
To introduce your new Britney Spaniel, you can use the help of a crate. Place the new dog in the crate and let the other 
dogs check him out. If there are signs of aggression from your older dogs, this is the time to correct it. It is important your old dogs are reminded that you are the pack leader. There is no need to rush this introduction. You should wait several weeks before you really let them face each other without the
crate. It won't take long for the old dogs to learn that this is a part of the family, not just any strange dog.
When you are ready to let the dogs mingle, try to take them to a neutral place away from their territory. Always do this with all the dogs on a leash. That way you won't lose control if a situation arises. When they do meet face to face, talk to them in a happy voice and let them sniff each other. If you have used the crate properly, you may be surprised that there is not much trouble at this point. It is important you don't allow any posturing among the dogs. This is a show of dominance and should be avoided. If you think there is a possibility of biting, put a muzzle on the dog that you are wary of. Your Britney Spaniel will get accustomed to your old dogs before you know it.
If you are unsure about your old dogs, repeat these meetings away from your home for a week or longer. Take your Britney Spaniel out of its crate each time and let them all mingle. After you feel comfortable, try it in your backyard. Again, you have to be on guard for any posturing or show of dominance. If it goes well, then you can let them mingle inside your home. Your Britney Spaniel will become part of the group and well accepted by his new family.
