Free Dogs -- Reasons and Facts

  1. Why Adopt:

Dogs are faithful and obedient creatures. They can help their owners in various tasks. Adopting dogs for free enables you to give them a home, and at the same time you get a lovely companion.
  2. What Pet to Adopt:

Dogs have different temperaments, hence you should adopt according to your tastes. If you are looking for a show dog, then think of Chihuahua, Kerry blue terrier, small spaniels, poodles, etc. If you want a serviceable dog, then Labradors or rottweilers would be ideal. Gentle dogs are great Danes, greyhounds, pugs, etc. Or if you want a rugged dog, then go for a pitbull.
  3. When to Adopt:

Dogs should be adopted when you yourself have a stable home and are able to give plenty of time to the dog. Many dogs would demand your attention constantly.

Free Dogs -- Where to Look

  1. Online:

There are not many free dog sites. Out of the few that exist - Universal Kennel's site - is a popular one.
  2. Classifieds:

Free dogs are sometimes advertised in dog magazines by rescue centers. They give the contact numbers and addresses where they can be reached.
  3. Pet Shows:

Pet shows rarely have free dogs. If you are looking for a dog at no cost, pet shows are not the place to visit.
  4. Local Vet:

Vet's sometimes advertise dogs that have problems due to their master's death or something like that. These dogs are available at dirt cheap rates, or even free. The vet may not have the dog, but only advertise some club or kennel that offers it.

Free Dogs -- What to Look For

  1. Pet Temperament:

Dogs have different temperaments according to their breed. While selecting a pet, it is extremely important to find out the pet's temperament.
  2. Pet's Surroundings:

Most dogs can adjust to living in an apartment. There are only some species like the Siberian husky that do not like the indoors. They would do well with a fair sized yard.
  3. Pet's Health:

Dogs are prone to diseases such as hip and elbow dysplasia, liver ailments, heart problems, etc. Most dogs suffer from eye and ear problems.
  4. What to Avoid:

Don't overfeed them, as almost all breeds can bloat on gaining weight. Don't pamper them much, but begin early training for all breeds.
