There are many Shih Tzus that are continually displayed in pet shows. Here, the advantage would be you can see and observe the dog before you decide to purchase it.

The local vet could have a few listings of this dog breed. Whenever there is a rescued Shih Tzu (which is not often), it would be put up on the vet's bulletin board.

This dog is very
playful and very intelligent. Though a bit obstinate, it loves to play with
children. It may be difficult to
train.

Shih Tzus that are rescued and even otherwise do very well in a small apartment. They do not need a yard.
3. Pet's Health:
They may develop the common ailments of dogs, viz. problems of eye, ear and hip. They may also get slipped disc. One more problematic area is their teeth which require constant dental care.
