Why Do I Need A Dog Door?
If you're like most people, you aren't able to be home with your dog all the time and be able to let him out when duty calls (or even when he needs some exercise or fresh air.) This can mean having to restrict your dog from certain areas of the house or containing him in a
crate while you're away to keep him from
urinating in the house. Left in the confined space for long periods of time each day is not healthy for the dog though.Putting in a dog door will allow your dog the freedom to go outside as needed and come back in through the
dog door once he has relieved himself, is too hot or too cold outside or needs to eat or drink. It gives your dog extra options while relieving the guilt you may feel for leaving the dog caged up all day.
How Does the Dog Door Work?
Start by measuring your dog's size and height to make sure he will comfortably fit through the hole of the dog door.
Next, cut the hole in your existing door to install the door. Designs have improved over the years and are now simple to install and can fit into almost any door, including glass door walls.
Then attach a special collar to your dog that will allow his to send a signal to the security box so he is the only animal that can pass through the door in either direction.
Do I Need A Dog Door To Housetrain My Dog?
Though it isn't necessary to install a dog door in order to train a puppy or older dog to go potty outside, it does offer an extra level of convenience to the situation. Imagine that once you leave for work your dog is doing nervous circles around the door before he finally squats to relieve himself. Even though he doesn't really have a choice, he'll most likely be scolded later on. But the same situation after a dog door has been installed has a much better result. This time, once you leave the house, the dog is free to let himself out of the house to go potty in the yard where he's trained to go. This makes everyone happy and makes potty training that much easier.
