History:
The Pacific Coast Bulldog Club is a very old club and has been conducting shows since 1950. It is a member of the American Kennel Club. The club also hosted the Nationals Specialty Shows of the Bulldog Club of America in the years 1950, 1966, 1980 and 1996.
Sanctioned:
This show is an American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned show. Pacific Coast Bulldog Club is also a member of the Bulldog Club of America, the AKC parent club for Bulldog, and falls under the Division III of the member clubs. The Division III includes all bulldog clubs in the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada.
Entrance Procedure:
All shows sanctioned by the American Kennel Club must follow the eligibility criteria set by the AKC for selecting participating dogs. The participating dogs must be recognized and registered with the American Kennel Club. The participating bulldog must have been recognized under the Non-Sporting Group of AKC. The dog must be 6-months or older. The participating dog must not have been neutered or spayed. The dog must be eligible according to any other criteria given in the breed standard.
Classes:
The show is a specialty show, in
which only bulldogs can participate in the events. The classes also include Best
of the Breed and the Best of the Show.
Judging:
Every dog is awarded points on the basis of its conformation to the breed standard. Minor faults in the dog can cut awarded points. The scale of points are based on General Properties, which includes attitude, expression, proportion, and symmetry; Gait, Size, coat, 39 points; body, legs, neck, chest, shoulders, ribs, for a total of 39 points. A brown or liver-color nose is a disqualification and disallows a dog with this type of nose to participate.
Awards:
The awards are given for Best Confirmation and separate awards for Best of the Opposite Sex and the Best of Show.
