Read About Choosing Cockatiel Treats

Keep your cockatiel´s diet balanced, and reward good behavior with tasty treats!

Things to Consider:

  • Activity Level – Cockatiels can quickly become overweight. Therefore, if your bird is not very active, it´s important to limit treats to either very small amounts once a week or a "standard" serving once every two to four weeks. You should check your treat packaging, or consult with your vet, as to what is considered a "standard serving".

  • Teflon Free – If you choose, you can give your cockatiel some "people food" for a treat. However, if your are feeding your bird food that you have cooked, you should avoid using Teflon cookware, as it leaves a residue on the food. While this residue is not harmful to humans, it can be extremely toxic to your bird.

  • Variety of Textures – It´s important to give your cockatiel not only a variety of foods, but a variety of food textures as well. He is just as likely to tire of a food texture as he eventually would with a food flavor.
