If you buy seed cakes for your parakeet, you should only give them 1 ⁄ 2 of the cake at a time. A whole cake is too much in one sitting, could cause overfeeding, or cause your bird to eat the treat instead of his healthier food.
Things to Consider:
Start Healthy – If you´ve just bought your parakeet, You should start feeding it healthy food and treats from the beginning. Parakeets, much like people, can be very stubborn, and you may find it difficult to switch your bird´s diet later on.
Training – Treats are a great way to train your parakeets. Parakeets are very intelligent birds and can be taught some basic commands, such as stepping on and off your hand.
Fruit – A parakeet ´s diet should consist of 5 – 10% fruit and veggies. Fortunately, fruit makes a great treat and can be fed to your parakeet every two to three days.
