If you have a long–haired cat, you should brush her for several minutes every day to keep the hair in good condition and find matted hair early enough to comb it out yourself.
Things to Consider:
Blow–Dryers – Another way to prevent matting is to brush and blow–dry at the no-heat setting after you bathe your cat.
Pro-Active Prevention – One way to ensure your cat gets brushed enough to reduce matting is to attach self–grooming combs along the bottom corner of the wall. Then, when your cat rubs against the corner, as all cats seem inclined to do, she will brush herself.
Shedding Blade – The best time to use a shedding blade is after you´ve bathed, dried, and brushed your pet. The bath and brushing will get rid of a lot of hair. The shedding blade will get the loose hair in the undercoat.
