Read About Choosing Dog Eye-Ear Care

Regular eye and ear treatments for your dog will help guard against more serious problems appearing.

Things to consider: How to care for ears, how to care for eyes, and taking care of more than one dog.

  • Ear Wash - Eye and ear care for your dog includes regular ear washes to remove parasites and prevent your dog from requiring more serious dog medicines later. Wash your dog's ears once every week using a dog-ear wash applied with a cotton ball. Never use a Q-Tip as you could slip and seriously damage your dog's ears. Only wash what you can reach with the cotton ball.

  • Eye Care - Eye medications for dogs come in two kinds -- ointments and drops. Ointments stay in the eye longer than drops and therefore usually need to be applied less often. If you apply ointment into your dog's eyes, hold the dog's lid closed afterwards and gently massage it to rub the ointment in. If you use drops however, no massaging is necessary for the medication to disperse. Regardless of which type of dog medicines you prefer to use, never touch your dog's eye with the tip of the bottle or tube.

  • Keep that Tongue Away - If you have more than one dog in your home, be sure that your second dog does not lick the dog medicines out of your first dog's eyes and ears.
