Read About Choosing Sweaters

Sweaters will protect your dog from the cold, and make her look fabulous at her next public appearance.

Things to consider: cold weather protection, getting accustomed to wearing sweaters, and making sure the fit is right.

  • Warm Look - Sweaters are the perfect dog clothes and costumes to keep your shorthaired, toy, or senior dogs warm and cozy indoors on those chilly days, and they will look just smashing at the next family gathering, like Thanksgiving or Christmas.

  • Establish a Routine - To get your dog used to wearing sweaters, make putting it on and taking it off a part of his regular routine, as you would a dog leash before walking.

  • Get the Right Size - Different dog clothes and costumes are designed to fit differently on the dog. For a sweater to be truly effective in keeping your dog warm in cold weather, make sure it covers his belly completely while still leaving his legs complete freedom of movement. The sweater should be snug, but not too tight, and it should end just at the base of the tail (where it meets her backside). Also, remember that you'll have to keep the sweaters clean, and washing them can make them shrink. Wash in cold water and hang on the line to dry in order to get the longest life out of your dog's sweaters.
