For handling large animals like cows, it is often much easier if they have their own collars, especially when you are transporting them.
Things to Consider:
Sizes – If you have ever purchased a collar before, you know that they come in a range of sizes, and that your animal may need an adjustment now and then. Always make sure that the collar is secure, yet not too tight.
Colors – There are a wide variety of colors and styles available. If you don't have a lot of animals to purchase for, it is often helpful to pick one particular color for each animal and match throughout; this way, you always know to which animal a certain collar, lead, or any other accessory belongs to.
Start Early – If you start using a collar early on your calf, it will be much more comfortable as adult wearing one. While a calf doesn't have to wear it all the time, an animal that is not used to collars may rub, scratch, or even chew other's collars right off.
