Read About Choosing Udder Care-Mastitis

Weather conditions and regular milking can cause dryness and chafing to the udder. In addition, the highly contagious mastitis needs to be controlled and treated as well if your animals have it.

Things to Consider:

  • Dry Area – Make sure you thoroughly dry your hands and the udder area before you begin milking. This will help reduce drying and cracking, and also lessen the chances of mastitis.

  • Cold Weather – If you are milking in cold weather, it is better to use a good salve after each milking to help protect the udder from severe cracking and dryness. There are products available that will hold up to cold conditions and frequent washing.

  • Udder Wash – Try using a specialized udder wash and sanitizer to lessen the chances of bacterial spread. Washing with water alone will not thoroughly clean and disinfect the udder.
