Read About Choosing Garden Shovels-Tampers

Shovels, trowels and tampers help save time, energy, effort, wear, and tear on your body when you have strenuous jobs to complete around the yard.

Things to consider:

  • Digging Efficiently – There are so many shovels available for your gardening and landscaping jobs, the trick is to make sure you use the right one at the right time. A square end shovel is great for scooping material, such as loose gravel or sand. A round point shovel is much more efficient at digging into soil. A spade will square off the sides of a hole and works well when creating borders along gardens.

  • Water Test – A garden trowel is great for digging holes when you want to plant seeds or small plants.Use your trowel to dig deep down into your grass. Pull out a plug of turf to see if it is moist. Water must soak down 4 to 6 inches to adequately water the root areas of your grass.

  • Smooth Operator – Use a tamper anytime you need to pack soil, sand, or gravel into a smooth surface. This is necessary when building things, such as rock walls and stone paths. A tamper is a useful tool when repairing a bare spot in your grass. When you use new turf for the repair, it needs to be tamped down once it is put in place.
