Read About Choosing Hole Diggers-Augers

Post hole diggers and augers come in handy for digging deep holes for projects ranging from planting bulbs to building tall fences.

Things to consider:

  • Dig Deep &ndash An auger is indispensable when you want to create deep holes for your planting or landscaping projects. They will drill holes into the ground that are 1"-2" in diameter and up to 18" deep. A bulb auger is ideal for daffodils, lilies, peonies, potted geraniums, and other large bulbs and plants.

  • Fence Construction &ndash The post hole digger helps you dig deep holes while disturbing as little surrounding dirt as possible. Many fence builders agree that it is best to avoid putting the posts in concrete, if possible. They become quite heavy and difficult to remove the next time you need to make repairs or changes to the fence.

  • Improve Durability &ndash You will need to dig holes that are around 2 feet deep for a 6-foot tall wooden fence. Most posts these days are made from pressure treated wood. Pressure treated wood stands up well against rotting when it is sunk into the ground. If you are using Cedar, or you are concerned about rotting due to extreme moisture, soak the end of the post overnight, if possible, in a wood preservative.
