Read About Choosing Plastic/Pre-Formed Ponds

Plastic and Pre-formed ponds take all of the guess work out of designing and installing an exquisite water garden.

Things to consider:

  • Pond Placement Tips – Placement of a backyard pond is a big concern. The following would provide the ideal location for a water garden:

    1. 4–6 hours of sunlight per day
    2. Fair amount of overhead cover
    3. Visible from both inside and outside the home
    4. Low traffic area
    5. A low part of your landscape
  • Installation Tricks – Place your pond form on the ground and use sand to outline its shape. Dig out the shape of the pond using the sand as your guide, allowing an extra two inches of depth for a layer of sand. You need to be sure to remove any sharp objects that could pierce the plastic. Place the pond in the hole to make sure it is the proper level. Then you can spread sand along the base and on the shelves. Put the pond on top of the sand lining, filling in the gaps with soil. Fill the pond and let it sit for a week to settle before adding anything to it.

  • After the Pond is Filled – Once the pond is filled with water, it needs to be allowed to sit for about a week. Water plants can go into the pond and left in place for two weeks before you introduce fish into the pond.
