Read About Choosing Reptile Aquariums and Cages and Habitats
Determining the size and type of habitat for your pet reptile is essential to its health and welfare.
Things to consider:
Aquarium Canopies – Canopies house and support your aquarium's lighting system. These also limit evaporation and keep your pet reptile safe and secure. You can choose among three different types of canopies for your aquarium such as wood, glass or plastic.
Cages – You will need to consider the full-grown size of your pet. Ideally, a cage for a full-grown pet reptile measures three square feet of floor space to every foot in length of your reptile. If you have an arboreal pet reptile, you will need a cage that is as tall as it is long. For most arboreal reptiles, you should use mesh caging for ventilation purposes.
Glass Aquariums – Glass aquariums are good containment units for snakes, lizards, frogs, as well as fish. You will need to choose the appropriate aquarium to fit your reptile's needs.
Habitats – A reptile habitat should closely resemble the natural surroundings your reptile is accustomed to. Items such as branches, plants, basking spots, heat and light source should all be used when designing your reptile's habitat.
Terrariums – Reptile terrariums are designed to keep in the heat and humidity needed by reptiles at an ideal level. Make sure you purchase a terrarium that is big enough to accommodate the size and growth of your reptile.
