Read About Choosing First Aid & Medications

When you first get your small pet, it's a good idea to create a first aid kit that includes a travel cage, bandages, ointment, something to clean wounds, and tweezers.

Things to Consider:

  • Make your home as "pet proof" as possible. Tuck electrical cords where they can't be reached, make sure household cleaning supplies are out of reach, and be sure the plants and flowers in your house aren't toxic.

  • Eye health is very important. Watch for cloudiness, matted fur around the eye, and discharge -- all of which are signs of unhealthy eyes.

  • Believe it or not, some seemingly harmless household items can potentially be toxic for your small pet. Things like deodorant, turkey bones, and even coffee can be dangerous if ingested by your pet.
