If your cat is shedding, there is nothing to worry about, as this is a normal process for him. However, if he is shedding excessively, a problem could exist. The problem could be as simple as needing to brush his fur more often to remove the loose hairs. Perhaps you are bathing him too much. Bathing a cat too often will dry out his skin and cause excessive shedding. If you have determined that none of these applies to your pet, you should have a close look at the diet you are feeding him.
- You should always feed your cat a premium cat food. The reason for this is that the premium food is packed full of the nutrients and vitamins necessary for your cat to live a healthy, active, lifestyle. These foods will also contain the essentials your kitty needs to have a healthy, shiny coat that sheds only when it is normal to fall out. Some cats shed once a year and others shed year round. There should not be excessive hair loss any of the time.
- If premium food by itself is not doing the job, you should schedule an appointment with your vet and speak to him about the possibility of giving your cat some nutritional supplements. You should NEVER give your cat supplements without the supervision of a veterinarian.
- If your budget does not allow premium cat food, then you need to look for foods that contain omega acids and amino acids. These building blocks eventually help maintain a beautiful and healthy coat on your cat. Again, you may get supplements to go along with your less than premium cat food, but you should do so only under vet's orders.
A little attention to your cat's diet will help him stay beautiful and healthy.
