Read About Feeding Your Kitten

Whether you have recently become a cat owner or have owned a cat, or cats, for some time, you may or may not know what is the best food for your feline friend. A good cat food can make all the difference in your cat's health and appearance. If you have recently acquired a kitten, there are several things you should consider as you stand in the store trying to select your pet's food.

  1. Whether you are considering dry food or canned food, you should select a food specially formulated for a kitten. Kittens need more vitamins and nutrients than adult cats do and they do not have to eat as much food as a kitten.
  2. It is perfectly okay to choose an all-dry food diet for your kitten. If you are feeding him a quality kitten formula food, he will get all the nutrition he needs. Although, it is very important to keep plenty of fresh drinking water available for him to drink, because dry food does not contain water as found in canned food. Some cats are finicky about drinking water that has set out for more than one day, so changing your kitten's water regularly is always a good idea.
  3. You may also choose to feed canned cat food to your kitten. Whether you feed only canned food or a combination of canned and dry depends on your choice and the eating preferences of your kitten. There are advantages to feeding both types of food. You can put dry food out when you are gone for kitty to nibble on throughout the day without worrying about it going bad. Later, you can feed him a can of food as a moist dinner meal. If you decide on a canned food only diet, you should set specific times for meals and take up any uneaten food after about 20 minutes.
